Halle Berry Wants 'X-Men Origins: Storm'

The primary issue I had with X-Men Origins: Wolverine was that it had too many characters. That's true of a lot of comic book movies, though, and unfortunately and coincidentally, its the terrific achievements by the first two X-Men films that created the problem. An overabundance of characters is tough to pull off, but because Marvel wants to use its tentpole movies to launch new films for other characters (Venom, Silver Surfer, Deadpool, and Magneto have all been developed or discussed), that trend won't be bucked anytime soon.

And now another original X-Men member is jockeying for another spin-off, which I guess would be a Petri dish for another handful of Marvel heroes. Halle Berry tells The Sun, "I think Storm deserves her own movie," echoing the feelings of exactly no one else. Berry is apparently less committed to making the movie herself, joking that she'd consider it "if I can still fit in the suit!" Yeah, because her body's gone straight to hell.

My own feeling is that Marvel is trying way too hard these days. The idea that Deadpool and maybe Gambit might grow out of the Wolverine movie is completly unsupported by their involvement in the film. The Avengers arc will involve Iron Man, a failed property in Hulk, Captain America, and the high risk/low reward Thor, plus Ant-Man and a couple of other characters. And though Marvel doesn't exert the same control over Spider-Man that it will the Avengers movies, who knows what Sam Raimi will do with the fourth Spidey movie. The third one was killed by too many characters.

It's really cart before the horse stuff for Marvel right now; outside of Iron Man, I can't think of another property that really has a lot of equity with audiences. They're going to make another Ghost Rider, because it made some money. Fox wants to re-boot Fantastic Four and Daredevil.

So taking all that into account, I think this Storm will pass pretty quickly.

This would be a good movie I think actually.

Halle Berry as we all know or should know does have the acting chops. If it was a good script and more focused on the emotional aspect and internal conflict going on within the character , unlike Wolverine was , it would be worth watching.

Wolverine had too many characters yes and no emotional or personal internal side to it like it shouldve had I agree.

If that could happen with Storm the movie could work.

But is it worth it? I dunno.

I think a Storm movie would be Awesome but if they do it I think they should go back to her roots back in Africa, she wouldnt need the suit but perhaps they could have Prof X, Jean and Cyclops trying to recruit her in the end because in the 1ST movie they were the only X-0men when they tried to get Wolverine to Join

I would love to see Storm get her own movie. I agree with the previous comment that it would have to be taken back to her years in Africa. Halley Berry would be the only actress I would want to see in the part.

As for Gambit, more screen time with him would be so much fun. The Cajun has always, and will always, be my personal favorite.

I thought Wolverine did a good job, but there were far too many characters which led to very little screen time for some of them.

I would love to see many of the back stories of the characters, Xavier in particular, but making them all into movies is overkill and the thrill will die down. Perhaps someone should move the stories to updated novels instead? Hum...

Storm was about the worst character ever. I'd rather see a Jubilee movie, and that's pretty bad.

The problem with both Gambit and Deadpool is that they're so limited in the Wolverine movie that I don't think anyone outside the comic fans are really going to think their movies are worth it. And Marvel is clearly shooting for a larger target than X-Men fans.

To those who are up for a Storm movie: You'd rather have that than Jean Grey? If I could choose, she'd be next.

I think a Storm Origins would be awesome. Halle Berry is a great actress who could really bring Storm to life and anyone who knows the comics has to agree that Storm does have an interesting back story. I would love to see a battle between young Storm, the Shadow King, and Prof. X. The only thing that I want to see more is X-men 4 with all the characters. I really wish they'd do a Apocalypse plot with a fully (Ms. Marvel) powered Rogue and have the love story between her and Gambit (my fave X-couple). I know he's in the Wolverine movie but they could say his powers cause him to age less rapidly or something- they could fudge it like they do some of the other characters. I think Marvel would be stupid to give up on the X-men franchise too soon. If they stop it now they'll have to wait years to revamp it and then all the original actors won't want to do it and new actors would have to be brought in and it would suck. And is another Hulk movie or Thor really an option? That's sad and a waste of money. As for a Jean Grey movie as suggested by Boyd- they did that already- it was called X-men: The Last Stand and Pheonix is way over done- let's have her not be reborn from the ashes for once. Let Stormy have her day or at least all the X-men.

Hulk is in The Avengers, as are Thor and Captain America. There won't be another Hulk movie between now and then, but Thor will shoot early next year.

I don't think we're going to see a full-on X-Men movie for a long, long time, and it all depends on what happens with Avengers.

halle berry can't have her own movie. she was a bond girl (curse) = her career is over!

I have no interest in a Storm movie and only a handful of X-Men fans do. Halle Berry is an overrated actress and she was a very forgettable character in the original X-Men films. She is not Wolverine, she is not Cyclops, and she is not Phoenix/Jean Grey. She is a secondary character. I'd see a Magneto film easily. I doubt I'd see a Gambit movie, and I don't know about Deadpool, possibly. But I definitely would not see a Storm movie.

Personally I never want to see Fox touch another X Men character. They clearly don't have the any professional, classy, or intelligent decision makers there. To me, if you can't do Wolverine right than you can't do any of them right.

i think it's hilarious that halle berry wants to do a storm origin movie. at the time of the first x-men movie, she complained of being "reduced" to doing comic book movies because there were no roles for serious, black actresses.

Please do not make a Storm movie. Look at Wolverine and see how bad they hosed that one up. No one cares about a Storm or any other female superhero movie. Hollywood had an opportunity to establish a female superhero movie with Elektra. However, they hosed it up by not focusing on the Frank Miller Elektra story line. Without Elektra being a box office success there is not chance for any other female character to carry her own film.

wait a minute Storm is a primary character in the movies and in most of every other series comic or what so ever, she is most of the time even more important than Cyclops and Jean (especially Cyclops) And in the movies, games and everything she is always at Wolverine's side showing that she is a fundamental character and with a new actress she would be portrayed better and in the movies she is always in front of the posters, pic, etc..... I rest my case

Storm rules and nobody can change that.

I think a Storm movie would be awesome if the tone and theme of the film is Blood Diamond-esque, it shouldn't be cheesy, but more should revolve around a dramatic topic, with character growth, as Halle's a good dramatic actress... plus Storm as a character has suffered through a lot so it could work

ex. being trapped next to her dead parents after an Israeli-Arab conflict they could go into some real issues in Africa, just put a superhero spin on it... just like how X-Men deals with discrimination

I definitely think a storm movie will be made but it looks like Marvel don't have the money to make a real true storm movie so I hope someone will take the character and make an excellent movie of her.I know it will rake in more cash tahn wolverine and xmen 3 combined.

I'd personally LOVE to see a Storm movie.

I could write a small essay as to why, but I'm feeling terribly lazy.

There needs to be a storm movie more than any marvel character at this point. Jean grey can't do crap, all she can do is lift a needle and complain that "it is too heavy, I can hold it a little." And scott with his thumb up his you know what spends most of his time wondering where jean is all the time. He cannot accomplish anything without her. Storm is a very important character she comes second to wolverine. She is second in command. We need more AFRICAN-AMERICAN heroes.

I agree there needs to be a Storm movie! I also agree that Halle has the acting chops to do Storm justice. I think what has mucked Halle's Storm up in the past has been the writers and directors of the past films. The writers set the past movies up to set Wolverine to be lead in the movies and to make him shine. Character's like Storm and Cyclops suffered greatly. Storm is an iconic and most reconized female super hero out there. She is powerful not just because of her mutant ability but because of her inner strength, compassion, and leadership. Storm story is one of the interesting story in marveldom to me and if Halle has good writer's behind her who will write Storm with the integrity that should have been there since the first X-MEN movie and have a directer with great vision that will help inhance the character I think we could have a winner.
Halle is a great dramatic actress and has the chops to do Storm justice. I also think it would be awesome to see Gambit, Xavier, & shadow king and maybe some other villans. Yes we need a Storm Origin movie. We also need X-MEN $!!!!!

What will make a Storm Origins Movie more interesting than any other marvel movie is the "Plot", and that's sticking to the bio of the character "Ororo Munroe a.k.a Storm".Allow us to believe that Halle is the character by bringing back the features and recognition of Storm (White Hair, blue eyes, mocha skin, and Kenyan accent),and give Stan Lee and Cockrum their props for making Storm. Halle Berry might not be dark skin, because she is our modern day Storm, and she is the only actress up for grabs and she seems to be more dedicated now than ever. She and the portrayed character deserves this personal screentime and I'll be the first one to know if it's in development (making). This will probably make more money than "Xmen Origins: Wolverine ", and my money is on Storm movie. This will bring Marvel Inc. back to the top depending on who directs and produce. My major point to this meaningful opinion is to allow 20th Century Fox consider this everyones wildest of dreams. The whole point of Storm being created and born (first appearance 1975) was to allow her to stand out from the crowd, and she was born with an attitude of a leader. Do not get me wrong she is an Xman, but before she became an Xman known as Storm, she was Ororo Munroe (and still is), we need to know and bring her to cinematics instead of just seeing her as animated. Halle Berry decided to do this not only to help her career get back on top (due to her daughter Nahla and future child), but to make it up for, well, ruining Storm for us. I agree with those who hated Halle as Storm because she looked liked she was playing dress up, but that's the fault of the: make-up, no blue eye contacts, no kenyan accent, dreadful hair, and most of all no tiara, or original costumes. These are all of the things which made others have second opinions on Storm being their favorite Xmen Character. I, once again want this film to have time put into it like the other Marvel & DC films ("Superman Returns", "Watcmen", "Incredible Hulk" and Fantastic Four films to name a few). 20th Century Fox I know this can be made possible, it's just a matter of time.

I'd LOVE to see a Storm movie..! I think it would b great. Halle Berry is the only person that could do the part. Look at all the other x-men films..! SHE WAS GREAT! she didnt really have that big a role (unfortunatly..) but she was awsome..!

Saturday, May 16, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJoe

Okay she had a biggish role.. but one of her best scenes from the X-men last stand was cut..! The one where she created a huge wave..! That was class..! Why did they cut it?
Anyway a storm film would be AMAZING

The next movie to come are way shoud be the rise of apocalypse. this is were they should place the next step because of the storyline with the last stand ended with charles xavier dead and magneto sill alive to run the x-men. i no magneto lost his powers but at the last part of the movie wer he movies that metal object could lead onto it. then tey could bring in more fights for the x-mn and more....................... they should do the origins for the main x-men but not all at once.

Sunday, May 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterX-men studio

Emm.. Hello? Charles was Alive at the end of the film..! Watch the little bit at the very end of the credits.. ! "Hello Moira." "Charles (in a Scottish accent)?"
he was alive.. only he had transfered himself into the body of the unconcious man that u saw on the TV screen earlier in the film.
There should be a Storm Origins film. There is a load of information about her past on the Marvel website.. http://www.marvel.com/universe/Storm she has a very intresting past and it would make a great film. She was a pickpocket and an orphan. You could easily make up a story about how she finds out about her power and joins the x-men. It would be AMAZING!!

The author of this article seems a bit out of touch with the X-men fanbase. I know for certain that fans would L-O-V-E film bio-ing Storm. As soon as news got out about this Wolverine film, I IMMEDIATELY heard others asking if the next would focus on Storm. Her popularity definitely rivals if not exceeds that of Jean Grey. Storm has always been an enigmatic character shrouded in mystery and intrigue. Lee, himself, sites that of all the mutants created, Storm is enigmatic because her power and abilities are extremely peculiar in the fact that they are connected to nature itself. I believe a film about her past and upbringing would be favored by her fans, and they would in turn understand the character more. In fact, if they don't consider a film about her, I think there are many X-fans that would be disappointed.
