Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 4:24AM Diaz, Braff, and a Movie I Don't Want to See
Look, we're surrounded by bad ideas all the time, and usually, what keeps us out of precarious situations, Nigerian e-mail scams, or prison, is trusting our instincts on which ideas are good and which ones are bad. And so it is with the recent emergence of a movie called Swingles.

I enjoyed Garden State quite a bit, and thought Zach Braff did a really good job directing it for a rookie. In fact, I didn't even notice how obvious a ripoff of The Graduate it was until I saw it on DVD months later. So I have nothing against him directing another movie. But the title is Swingles, which doesn't even sound appetizing as a snack cake. Strike One.
Perhaps you're not so sure it will suck. Allow Variety to elaborate: The story "centers on a bachelor who is dumped by his wingman and teams up with a sharp-tongued woman he can't stand in order to meet singles." The woman he can't stand will be played by Cameron Diaz.
The words "Cameron Diaz" and "movie" have been a troublesome combination for years now, so if this meets her demands, that's strike two. Strike three: The already apparent "meeting singles gone wrong" montage. Sorry, Zach.
Braff is also in talks to co-star in the movie, which makes sense since he only has a few episodes of Scrubs left in front of him.

"woman he can't stand"....sums up how I fell about Cameron Diaz
...as opposed to Botox Kidman and Goop Paltrow, who are eons MORE deplorable!
