Monday, May 25, 2009 at 1:14PM Who Should Play Steve McQueen: Pitt or Craig?
In an upcoming star vehicle at least partially about vehicles, I'm squarely in camp Daniel Craig. The current 007 is the pick of Steve McQueen's widow to play the coolest man of all time, but she doesn't have the final word on who will embody Bullitt in the upcoming adaptation of the biography, Steve McQueen: Portrait of an Americal Rebel.

Examiner (via Cinematical) says that producers Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters want Brad Pitt for the role, and frankly, I can't blame them. Pitt's obviously a bigger star than Craig, and even though he doesn't have the same build and he doesn't look as much like McQueen, it's not a bad fit by any means.
Clearly, Pitt brings with him greater box office potential, that women-want-him-men-want-to-be-him thing down, and he exudes the sort of confidence that would make him a natural for the role of McQueen.
It's a long-overdue bio-pic. McQueen lived fast - women, cars, martial arts, drugs - and was such a big star that the roles he turned down would be a great career. Imagine him in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Dirty Harry, The French Connection, First Blood, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Whether it's Pitt or Craig, the McQueen bio-pic is a can't miss prospect. I wonder how revealing it will be, though, because in addition to his drug problems and all the women, McQueen was not exactly Michael Caine on the set. He could definitely be combative. More than likely, it will embrace those "American Rebel" traits but focus more on the girls and the cars.

Craig looks more like McQueen then Pitt
Craig definitely, McQueen had a certain weathered grittiness to him that you can see in Craig. Brad Pitt is just too baby faced to be believable. One would hope that those with the final say would respect his widow's wishes and perhaps they will. Or maybe Pitt will turn them down if they offer it his way.
No Brad Pitt hopefully its Daniel Craig....
Hopefully Daniel Craig (he even looks quite a bit like him in that photo). I think it's just that "Brad Pitt as Steve McQueen" doesn't really have a good ring to it. Sounds like the normal, "Hollywood" decision (although a real out-of-the-box decision would be to pick a newbie, an unknown in order to prove his worth).
Daniel Craig should definitely get the part. There is no one else!!!
Brad Pitt??? Surely he could only play Robert Redford......
---Nearly 50 but still Pitt's too bland and plastic looking for this role.
Come to think of it the entire project sounds like the last word in circle-jerk, creatively bankrupt
Hollywood 'inspiration'.
You like McQueen? ---watch his movies and read the bios. He's already been seen to death.
