Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 5:03AM 'Flight of the Navigator' Remake Cleared for Takeoff
Disney will cart out another remake of a movie in its enormous catalog, targeting the 1986 sleeper hit, Flight of the Navigator. Someone will have to tell me if I'm missing out; though I remember when it was released, I don't think I ever saw Navigator.

I did, however, read a synopsis: There was this 12-year-old kid who was abducted back in the '70s, and when he reappears back on Earth, he hasn't aged and he has no memory of what had happened to him. Then NASA sticks its bureaucratic nose into things, leading up to what is no doubt a big finish.
The Hollywood Reporter says that original executive producer John Hyde will preside again, working with producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman from Mandeville Productions. That company is in good with Disney at the moment, working with the studio on Surrogates later this year. TV vet Brian Copeland (Arrested Development, My Name Is Earl) will write the script, but no director has been attached yet.
Since I have no memory of the movie - or maybe I was really the boy in the movie and that's why I don't remember anything but the title - I can't say whether or not we need another Flight of the Navigator. I can say that Disney didn't exactly find a license to print money with the similar Race to Witch Mountain. One problem in that case was that the movie really sucked. So maybe a newer title in the archives and a better finished product is all Disney needs to make it a hit.
Oddly enough, Flight of the Navigator wasn't even a hit itself back in the 1980s, at least not until it went to home video.

Flight of the Navigator was one of my favorite films as a kid. Up there w/ Goonies and The Princess Bride. In fact I just got the DVD for my birthday. I felt like a kid again! I was surprised when I re-watched it how much it held up. The fx were fantastic, not just for the time, Sarah Jessica Parker's just as hot as I remember her, and that soundtrack? Bitchin! Anyway, all of that said, I'm not looking forward to a redo. Maybe it's because I still have a bad taste in my mouth due to Terminator Salvation...
it was def a fav grownin' up
awesome, i totally loved this movie as a kid. one of my favorites. right after CONDORMAN!! which was also fantastic.
IMO this is a seminal 80s classic, how can you never have seen it?!
It's been years since I saw the movie, brought it and saw it last night, I'm surprised of what I rembered, which is surprising seeing I don't remember much since before I was 10, anyway I was shocked to find that I like the movie now, didn't like back when I was a kid, but I guess that's because I didn't understand fully what was going on in the movie.
As for the remake, no I wouldn't watch it, most remakes aren't good anyway.
