Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 1:32PM Jonah Hill Aiming for "Insane" R-Rated 'Jump Street'
I watched the Bruno trailer on the big screen last night and noticed for the first time that Jonah Hill is an Associate Producer. It only surprised me that he was involved with that movie, because Hill is quietly becoming a behind-the-scenes guy, too. Take, for example, 21 Jump Street.

Hill became the writer of record on the TV adaptation last year, I believe, and he tells Complex (via Collider) that it's going to be pretty balls-out. "[Sony executives said] they were gonna let me make my kind of movie—an R-rated, insane, Bad-Boys-meets-John Hughes-type movie—and I told them the second they don’t, I’m not gonna be involved anymore," Hill says.
But don't expect this movie to poke fun at the show, a la Starsky & Hutch.

“Yeah, if you look at the opening episode of ‘21 Jump Street,’ you see a man looking at a picture of a cop holding a little boy’s hand, and you hear a crazy saxophone solo, and you pan up and it’s Johnny Depp looking at the picture playing the crazy saxophone solo. We’re not even spoofing the movie. It’s not strictly comedic, either. We’re doing a full-on action movie, blowing shit up.”There's a lot of room for movement with a Jump Street movie, because the show is hardly a classic. Its reputation is more a nostalgic one than an artistic one, and people hold it in a certain regard because of its place in their childhood. So I don't think the movie has to follow a specific angle to be a success. And I do like the R-rated approach.

I hope the studio lets him make my kinda animal house type of 21 Jump Street.
If they do, then maybe, Johnny Depp will make a cameo, mocking his old character : P
