Lara Croft Prequel on the Way - Do You Care?

Producer Dan Lin thinks we need a new Lara Croft movie, so what form would that take? A prequel. Yawn.

Lin helped make Terminator Salvation, which is a bit of a dirty word at the moment, but Lin says that formula for success (?) will be the same one he uses to exhume the heroine from her tomb. "I would say it's like Terminator - character-driven action," Lin explained to About.com."I think for me the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action-oriented. I wanted to have action, but with character."
Perhaps he should have taken that idea on a trial run with, say, Terminator Salvation. That movie only explores one character, albeit the wrong character, and one who has very little to do with the John Connor story.
"It's a great origin story that we're going to tell. A very character-oriented, more realistic than past Lara Croft movies." Man, I hope she screams a lot and can't make a single decision before listening to a bunch of 35-year-old cassette tapes.
Perhaps I'm the dumb one, but I don't know a lot of people who loved the Lara Croft movies. The first one at least had the advantage of being a complete movie. That second one was just a bunch of noise. So now, Dan Lin has the fairly expensive movie rights to a character whose time has passed and will try to resurrect an audience that didn't even care about the sequel, which will almost be ten years old by the time we see Lara again.
Wouldn't the money he's already spent be more wisely invested in writers who could develop a new female action heroine that doesn't have the baggage? But again, perhaps I'm the dumb one. I only saw Fox cash in on Taken, a workable action movie with close to no plot and a leading man in his mid-50s. I'd be surprised if this Lara Croft movie gives the same return on the investment.

REALLY?
I remember the first Tomb Raider game. And I am pretty sure it was an action-oriented game with hardly any character. It had a chick in short shorts, big tits, and two guns. What else did I need when I was twleve.
No, sir. I do not care.
The shorts, the tits, and the guns are the character.
i agree
