'Thor' Writer Promises "Dirt, Grime, and Blood"

Now that Thor is pretty much all lined up with a director (Kenneth Branagh), a hero (Chris Hemsworth), and a villain (Tom Hiddleston), we just wait for those first on-set photos to show up. The movie goes into production early next year, with Marvel locking in a 2011 opening a couple months ago.

But what will it be? Thor is a God, after all, and some of the movie won't take place on Earth (at least if it's anything like the comic), and we don't know enough about the actors to even form a judgment on what they can bring to it. Plus, the last time Branagh directed a well-known literary figure for Hollywood, he cast Robert DeNiro as Frankenstein's monster. No thank you.

Cinefools just talked to screenwriter Ashley Miller to fill in some of those blanks:

"You want to feel Thor's rage when he rages. You want to see him fight like hell, and take as much he dishes out -- maybe more. You want to have a visceral reaction to the guy, and what happens to him. You don't want his adventures to be clean and antiseptic. You want to see the dirt, and grime, and blood. You want to feel every bone crunching moment of every fight. And when he unleashes the storm, you want to feel like you're seeing the power of a God at work."

Thor's a really good character, for those of you who haven't read the comics, but translating his story to the screen might prove troublesome. I like the rough-and-tumble approach Miller discusses for the action scenes, although I was frankly not as concerned about those going in.

There's also the questions about how this will tie into the other movies in the Avengers arc, which Miller confirms he and co-writer Zack Stentz worked hard to keep in mind, saying this is "rooted in the Marvel film world."
