Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 4:02AM 'Hangover' Star Bradley Cooper in Talks for Green Lantern?
Warner Bros. and DC Comics is thirsty for another superhero property to go alongside Batman while the Man of Steel licks his wounds and waits for a worthy rebound. That hero seems to be The Green Lantern, which is one of DC's strongest properties, even if non-comic book fans would be operating with a learning curve.

Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) will direct the film, and we'd previously heard of the movie's $150 million budget, which is about standard for a superhero start-up. But we still don't know who will play the lead role. Speculation has centered on Ryan Gosling, Chris Pine, Emile Hirsch, Anton Yelchin, and for all I know, a digitally renewed James Dean. But HitFix is reporting that the role may go to Bradley Cooper from the recent He's Just Not That Into You and the upcoming The Hangover.
Cooper is probably a better Captain America, all things being equal, but it makes a ton of sense for the studio to reach out to him now, which apparently has happened. He's being tipped as one of the breakout stars of the summer, and The Hangover could be one of the biggest sleeper hits of the season. Also - surprise, surprise - The Hangover is a Warner Bros. picture as well, and Cooper has agreed to the sequel already.
I don't have a problem with Cooper in the role - even though I'd pick Josh Hartnett - and I suspect that if there's teeth to this speculation, it won't be confirmed until The Hangover is about to be released or has just been released. That's only about a month away, and it would allow the studio to push a summer movie that could use some extra publicity while planting a seed for a project it might be slightly overvaluing at this point.
Good for Cooper if he gets it, but whichever way they go, it'll be a summertime decision. Campbell's Green Lantern is scheduled to be released in December 2010, so they have to get crackin'.

Good choice... totally agree with the Hartnett for Lantern and Cooper for Capt though but they could certainly do worse.
