Friday, May 8, 2009 at 12:30PM New Trailer for Woody Allen's 'Whatever Works'
Woody Allen is enjoying a career renaissance, following a period of professional and
personal failures. But there's an old saying that reminds us that talent will out, and Allen is clearly
one of the best writer-directors of the past half-century.

He made his mark with comedies, although I think most people would say his dramas are far more interesting
across the board. And his comedies haven't even been that funny in the past several years, while his
dramas, like Match Point, are as good as they've ever been.
Whatever Works is Allen's latest comedy, with Larry David essentially playing that Woody role. What
strikes me about the trailer, in addition to David breaking the fourth wall, is that the trailer plays like a big studio comedy instead of small Woody Allen film. Well, a bigger studio comedy, at any rate.
The Southern Christian stuff looks a little bleh, but I have to admit, I'm more curious about it now than I was before I watched this.

I thought it was very funny if broad. Execs though must think Allen is BO poison since this is his second movie in a row where they've avoided his name in promotion.
