Friday, May 8, 2009 at 11:47PM 'V for Vendetta' Director McTeigue Eyes 'Conan'?
I have to admit, I'm not certain a new Conan movie is the answer to a question on a lot of people's minds. Are you dying to see it? If we're swinging old swords from the early 80s, I'd rather we had a remake of Excalibur, if for no other reason than to wash the taste of King Arthur out of our mouth.

But Conan will be happening, and at least we know now that Brett Ratner won't be directing it. So who will? According to CHUD, V for Vendetta director James McTeigue might be the man for the job. One problem might be that McTeigue doesn't have the box office track record that Ratner does, which could hamstring the budget a little bit.
Currently, Conan is slotted for a $120 million budget, which sounds like a ridiculous amount of money to me. If you can't make this for under $90 million, you're doing something wrong. CHUD wonders aloud if the budget will be cut no matter who the director is, and I would hope so. How much money does Nu Image/Millenium think they can make off this thing, anyway?
Conan will shoot late this summer, provided a director can be signed in time and they can find a guy to play Conan, which is easier said than done. I have less of an issue with a Conan reboot than I do one done wrong and rushed into production and into theaters.
Nothing against McTeigue, whose Ninja Assassin is on the way soon, but this sounds like it has more question marks to exlcamation points to me.
