Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 2:34PM What Did You Think of 'Star Trek'?
Every now and then, I like to gauge the temperature in the room on a big movie. Because I loved Star Trek and think all the other summer popcorn flicks are going to have a hard time matching it, I'm especially curious to hear what you think of it.

I know we have a few ardent followers of the entire series, and even though this one isn't a literal interpretation of the scripture, I wonder if most of the purists are OK with the direction J.J. Abrams is taking it, do you like the cast, or would a more traditional version have gone over better.
On the flipside, this isn't a movie geared towards people who have digested every episode of the show or trudged through all the other movies. So if you're new to Trek, let us know how this stacks up to some other movies you've seen this year.
Get to it; the floor is yours...

New Star trek is awesome. i dont know how the trekkies feel but for non trekies i think it is awesome and it made me interested in the star trek world.
I thought Star Trek was brilliant! I especially enjoyed Spock and Chekov.
I loved it. It was better than Cats. I'm going to see it again and again.
The big, noisy action scenes were all right but had that not-so-fresh quality to them (this is Star Trek 11 after all) and the backstories of Kirk's birth, how he almost drove off some cliff while hotrodding and listening to Sabotage by the Beastie Boys, or how the vulcan kids used to tease little Spock by doing "yo mama" snaps didn't seem all that interesting and gave me the same tired feeling I had when I learned how jedi elders do tests for something called midi-chlorians in the blood. But if you've always wondered just how Kirk passed the big Kobiashi-Maru exam at the starfleet academy, well, then this is the movie for you. Loved the Budweiser product placement too.
I thought it was fantastic. I was glad that they didn't totally "cheese" it up. I thought that it gave new life to the story line and is a welcome addition to the series, even if it is #11. All in all I will see it many times.
Trust The Onion to have a solid take and echo Colin's thoughts about trek fans like me. ;)
Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable'
I'll post an actual opinion after I've actually seen it, actually.
I loved it! I loved it! I loved it!
I'm not a Star Trek fan by any means, but just hearing the classic, oversaid lines and seeing Spock do his famous hand sign was a treat.
I'm a few decades late, but Star Trek has earned itself a new fan.
I'm a Trekkie (although not as ardent and obsessive as some) and I loved the movie. I thought the firy young cast breathed new life into Star Trek. The visuals were awesome also.
