Skarsgard Talks About Getting Thisclose to 'Thor'

Marvel and director Kenneth Branagh surprised a lot of observers last month when
Star Trek actor Chris Hemsworth was named as the pick to play Thor. He wasn't really even rumored
about prior to the announcement, but if you look at the measurables - he said as if this were the NFL
combine - he's a good physical match, as well as an actor who shows some promise.

That left Alexander Skarsgard out in the cold. The True Blood actor had emerged as a front-runner
before Hemsworth got the gig, and apparently, that wasn't just chatter. Skarsgard tells MTV, “I met with
[Marvel Studios chief] Kevin [Feige] a few times and the director,” adding that he got so far in the
process that he even filmed an audition for Marvel, complete with the God of War's hammer.
"Yeah, that was pretty fun," admits Skarsgard.
Now, it's not the end of the road for Skarsgard and Marvel. Kevin Feige said recently that he's keeping many of the finalists for Thor in mind for other roles, whether that's in Captain America or The Avengers, or even as characters in already established franchises, like Iron Man.
"It depends on the circumstances - who the director is, and what the character is," Skargard says of other roles. "But of course...I think it’s every little boy’s dream; it would be a person’s dream to play an action hero.”
Of all the Marvel movies, I'm still the most skeptical about Thor. Branagh must have seen something he really liked in Hemsworth, not that Skarsgard would have raised the profile of the film much more. I suppose if there's a moral victory, more people know the name Alexander Skarsgard now.

I understand the choice of Hemsworth as he is more extrovert and perhaps suitable to the concept of a cartoon movie.
On the other hand, Skarsgård would have played the role with authority and more depth, so I would have thought he would be a better match for Branagh.
Eye-to-eye, my friend.
