Monday, June 15, 2009 at 10:34PM Leo Explores Online Gambling with 'Rounders' Writers
Lots of DiCaprio-based news today. First came the news
(technically, this weekend) that Leo's production company, Appian Way, was moving
on from a proposed live-action Akira. Then his summer 2010 movie
(Leo in a summer movie?), Christopher Nolan's Inception, has been rumored to have a $200 million
budget. And now DiCaprio is hitting the tables.

The Oscar bridesmaid will produce and star in an untitled project about the still-growing pool of online
casinos. The movie will be based in Costa Rica and comes from writers Brian
Koppelman and David Levien, who know their way
around the gambling world, having previously written Rounders and Ocean's Thirteen. Most
recently, the pair wrote Stephen Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experience.
The connection, though, according to Variety, is the adaptation Beat the Reaper, which Leo is developing with the writing pair.
Obviously, you can't write a movie about the online world without having it focus on one person, so I
smell Leo as a gambling addict whose life is destroyed and goes on a mission to blah de blah de blah.
Maybe not, but that's the temperature I get.
