Portman Teams Up With Aronofsky for 'Black Swan'

Darren Aronofsky has reached out to Natalie Portman to star in his upcoming film, The Black Swan. The Hollywood Reporter says the film is "a supernatural thriller set in the world of New York City ballet," a concept that probably reads better as a full script.

The project was set to go at Universal a couple of years ago, and then it was put in turnaround. Now that Aronofsky has directed The Wrestler and has grabbed the attention of Portman, The Black Swan might wind up at a Searchlight Classics branch of one of the major studios, although no deal has taken place yet.

You might ask why Universal would have passed. Well, remember, Aronofsky's last film before The Wrestler was The Fountain, and it's safe to say that didn't do very well. Plus, it was an older version of the script than exists now, and it didn't have Portman.

She would play a ballerina vying for a key performance against a hated rival. Except the rival may not actually exist. I'm cool with everything here except the ballet. Give me Aronofsky directing another psychologically deep movie, and give me Natalie Portman doing something she's never done before as an actress. But if Aronofsky is putting off Robocop for a few more months, I sure wish it didn't have to do with ballet.

I agree like usually with you Colin, what the hell is the ballet and whats that got to do with anything..

To me the whole premise sounds odd, "supernatural thriller having to do with ballet" not so sure about that...

AND YES something more psychologically with Aronofsky would be amazing, the man is a great young director and The Wrestler shows he's a actors director (some people knows what that means, Im sure you do Colin) ..

The man knows characters, thoughts, choices, mentality, and plot..

Natlie Portman has somewhat dissapointed me recently I thought she would be a great actress after roles like V for Vandetta and especially Closer and I even liked her in The Other Boleyn Girl....but she hasnt been cutting it the last few years like I expected....

But she is still young....
