Shia Says Spielberg "Gearing Up" 'Indiana Jones 5'
Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 3:11PM
Here's the only upshot of a fifth Indiana Jones movie: If you're going to do
it, you should get started as soon as possible rather than waiting another several years. And because
everyone involved seemed to be happy with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (perhaps they didn't watch
it) and it was profitable, you can't really be surprised that talk of a cinquel has persisted over the
past year.

And according to Shia LaBeouf, a major step has been taken by Steven Spielberg. Discussing his string of
sequels with the BBC, Shia says Spielberg has "cracked" the story, which we take to mean he has a central
concept he and George Lucas can agree upon and before long, it will be sent out to a team of 65 writers.
Now, because Shia is the one sharing the news, that seems to be a pretty good indicator that Mutt
Williams-Jones will help dad on his next adventure, or at least drive Indiana to the early bird buffets. Here's an oddity, though: Harrison Ford was older in Crystal Skull than Connery was in Last Crusade by about five years. So if they wait and wait and wait, he's 70. And if you want additional sequels beyond that...well, you get the picture.
So if they're going to do it, if we absolutely have to have a fifth Indy Jones, let's get it done before too much more time passes.

Haha WOW Shia has a bunch of shit lined up for the next few years Im sure, and by the time he's ready or free Mr. Jones aught to be in a wheelchair haha..
Comeon, I mean they must not have the watched the film, I must say I thought it had it's moments of funny but overall not very impressive but it made massive amounts of money right?
Hey Colin you said 65 writers??
How the hell do you know that?
Are there really 65??
How does that work??
Why so frickin many??
I'm betting he was being facetious
I was expecting Crystal Skull to be horrid, so when I saw it I was shocked. I actually liked it
I'm like the guy who commented why so many writers (65)? That sounds crazy to me! It is impossible for that many writers to agree on scenes, dialogue, etc. Maybe Mr. Spielberg fires writers at warp speed? I wonder if he was directing would he have 64 directors in the wings. How do they decide who gets writer's and director's credit.???
i figured that spielberg and lucas came up with 'crystal skull' by smoking some crystal meth. really.... think about it. they are sitting around at the lucas ranch, drinking some wine and stuff... and, they both go, "you know, we have all these props and sets left over from close encounters and et and star wars, and those script pages we didn't use... let's put them together with indiana and make a movie!!"
it's the truth, and we all know it.
When I rewatched the fourth one objectively, the problem wasn't necessarily in the script or the story. A lot of silly and fantastical things happened in the first three. The problem, at least for me, was the extensive use of computer effects that just made it not look or feel like an Indiana Jones movie. That's a problem with a lot of poorly done effects heavy films these days. The creative flexibility of modern computer technology has ironically made directors less creative.
Come on. The Crystal Skull wasn't dreadful.
It had a strong first act, medium second act and weak third act.
Harrison Ford and Karen Allen were a little too old, Shia was a little too young and Cate a little too good. The kung-fu Mayans were naff.
Other than that, it was ok.
Shia was one of the best things about it, however, I don't think you could watch that movie and say it was worth the 20-year wait or worth making another one beyond it. It was entertaining to a point, and that point was swinging from vines. After that I don't think anything really worked. The giant ants, the aliens, all silly.
For the record, I was being facetious about 65 writers, but the fourth movie went through so many iterations over the years that it kind of became a joke.
Well, the Temple of Doom, was actually a good movie at the core - but it was completely ruined by Kate Capshaw and Short Round. The second and third acts were't well executed either.
The question is, is The Crystal Skull so bad that they shouldn't have bothered to make it? The answer is that it is OK to watch.
