Trailer - Antarctic Kate Beckinsale in 'Whiteout'

The general rule is that if a movie is delayed over a year, it's pretty much not worth your time. What's odd is that, in spite of the general rule, some of these movies are a lot better than the ones that go smoothly and wind up in theaters on time.

The graphic novel adaptation, Whiteout, was shot over two years ago and was supposed to be released - if I have my chronology straight - in September of 2008 and then in April or something like that this year. I believe that's right. In any case, it's been given a few opening dates only to have Warner Bros. put it back on the shelf.

But now the Kate Beckinsale movie is inching closer to another release date, September 11th, which is not exactly a graveyard, but it ain't the best weekend on the calendar. The studios and the press are all focused on the Toronto Film Festival around that time, so you rarely get a huge movie in the first couple weekends of September.

Still, I'm game for the flick about the first murder in Antarctica and Beckinsale as a U.S. Marshal. Here's the first trailer:

So, unless something else happens between now and the end of summer, look for Whiteout in theaters on September 11th.

I'll pay to see that for both Kate Beckinsale, Gabriel Macht and Alex O'Loughlin : )
