'2012': The Trailer for the End of the World is Here
Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 12:57PM
Do you ever get the feeling that director Roland Emmerich will be very put out if the end of the world comes in the form one quick little intergalactic blip instead of the world crumbling in on itself for weeks and weeks at a time?

Emmerich's middle name might as well be disaster thanks to Independence Day, Godzilla, and The Day After Tomorrow. His latest End of Days movie is 2012, which, if it's any good, will probably drum up some good business this fall. Don't forget, the director's 10,000 B.C. - which wasn't about a disaster but certainly was one itself - nearly broke the $100 million barrier.
The film is based on that Mayan calendar nonsense, as well as some other doomsday predictions. John Cusack plays our hero, Danny Glover our President. Here's the new trailer:

Much like Halloween opening in August, you have to wonder why 2012 is opening three years early. But I guess if 2001 could get away with it...

Wow this looks Great.
Yeah WOW I'am surprised, I mean the effects are amazing...
Im no expert but the CGI and all that jazz, look really good...
The plot is also ok rather than just bad, as far as I can tell....
In IMAX this would be a sight to see, I must say...
I wonder if 3D woulda worked for this kinda film too....
CGI has drastically improved in the last few years, but we are still saying "Wow, those are great computer effects!" as opposed to "How the hell did they DO that?!"
This looks like utter garbage with B-List "Stars" (horrible, random casting) and lots of fake-looking explosions. How many times have we seen the White House explode in a movie? 10,000 BC was hands down the worst movie of last year & this one will be the biggest disappointment.
Ok, they got our attention, let's hope they do something with it.
I agree with Mr Pigg that live action films tend to look more and more like animations or computer games.
The basic object of visual effects is not to illustrate impossible events, but to make us believe that they are real.
I've always been a sucker for "end of the world" movies and this one looks really, really good. Just from this trailer, there might be a little too much CGI (which I think can get overdone), but I'm hoping for the best. But the last end of the world movie that looked good (The Day After Tomorrow) was somewhat disappointing, I hope this one doesn't disappoint.
CGI shows G.I.Joe what there suppsoed to do with a budget. Crush the white hosue with a tidal wave carrying an aircraft carrier.
Looks like good popcorn fun, like all the other end of the world movies.
John Cusack is not a b-movie actor and if people could just enjoy the action of the movie and not be so critical maybe they would have some fun at the movies. Some people do believe in the 2012 idea! I do! If u don't just remember it's an action movie take it for what it is ok! Looks good to me!
