More 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' Posters
Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 6:52PM
The official site for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has released another series of movie posters. So far they've been pretty middle of the road, and I have to admit, this new batch isn't any great breakthrough.

In the middle of this marketing run, there was a much more effective and evocative set of character posters that pumped the brakes on all the blue we're seeing this time around. They weren't as obviously Photoshopped and were dramatic close-up shots that fell slightly out of frame.
Oddly enough, in this new set, I only like the ones not featuring the three musketeers. The one with Harry is a real head-scratcher, but the Draco Malfoy and Luna Lovegood posters I quite like. See if you don't agree...

We're less than a month away from the new Potter movie. I wonder if it will do any business here or abroad.

Note to self, reading Colin while drinking soda is not advised.
As for the poster bit... the first one with Hermione is ok and the Lovegood and Malfoy posters clearly outclass the rest. I get what they were aiming for with the Potter/Weasely shot but it just looks off. That could be by intent to convey the awkward nature of their relationship but it just really seems like a bad shot that could've been done better and less blah, flat.
More than anything, to me, is how bad the overall art direction is.
...VERY unfortunate TITLE PLACEMENT (especially letter Y) on this first one... DIRTY HARRY... LOL.. :)
Lmao ppp. I agree. And I really like the Luna and Malfoy posters, but the others are a bit meh. This movie's batch of posters has all been a bit too photoshoppy for me. :/ Except I really love the teaser poster with Harry and Dumbledore refected in his glasses.
The problem with using Photoshop (or whatever they're using) is that it eliminates the real spatial relationship between characters in the posters. That G.I. Joe mess did the same thing. They're just taking individual images and resizing them and putting them where they think they should go against the background. It looks phony.
If this were for some lower budget thing it wouldn't surprise me, but won't this make over three-quarters of a billion dollars around the world? Spring for the extra $250K to get your posters done right.
The photoshop or whatever does look shitty and its used for no reason...
Im so excited for Harry Potter though!
Its gonna be a amazing in my opinion...
I love the films and get completely lost in that world when watching it
Go HARRY!
haven't seen those before, thanks
