Reese Witherspoon Lives Life Down on the 'Pharm'

I first noticed Reese Witherspoon when a lot of red-blooded American men did, as a juvenile delinquent Red Riding Hood in Freeway. Then came good roles in Pleasantville and Election, and eventually Legally Blonde, which made her a star and showed should could be a comedic lead. Now she's got an Oscar...and hasn't done a damn thing since.

Perhaps that will change, though, because Reese has Hollywood Reportedly signed on for Pharm Girl, which will pair her with Bad Santa writers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. Witherspoon will star and produce the comedy about one woman's rise through the pharmaceutical drug industry.

She has proven that she can go against the mainstream, and I really wish she'd do it again. Tracy Flick is a great character, and if the tone of Pharm Girl is some sort of maniacal hybrid of that film and Bad Santa, it could the perfect vehicle for an actress who frankly has seemed a little aloof and lazy in the past few years.

Witherspoon has increased her coverage as a producer, and she has a few other projects coming down the pike through her Type A productions, most of them a little more formulaic than this sounds. However, she isn't necessarily attached to star in all of those. Still, we could use more things like Pharm Girl to counteract the lasting effects of something called the last thing we need is Reese Witherspoon in a movie called Around the World in 80 Dates.
