Trailer, Poster for 60s Rock Bio-Pic, 'Telstar'

There's no U.S. release date yet for Telstar, although if you attended the Seattle Film Festival this past weekend, you could have caught it there. We do know it's coming out in the U.K. on June 19th, so hopefully it'll migrate across the pond later this summer or in the fall as a limited release.

It's a musical bio-pic about Joe Meek, "the flamboyantly gay, tone deaf, songwriter-producer behind the '60s hits 'Have I the Right', 'Just Like Eddie', 'Johnny, Remember Me', and 'Telstar'." Those songs are a bigger deal in England than they ever were in the states, although "Telstar" was a number one hit in the U.S. for The Tornados in 1962. But if you're ascribing adjectives to a movie character, flamboyantly gay and tone deaf are good places to start. The description leaves out paranoid and his obsession with the occult. Yeah, he tape recorded graveyards.
The poster is cooler than the trailer, but then again, that poster's just infinitely cool. I do like the period touches we see in the trailer, though, and the early 60s in London are a great time to imagine yourself being for a couple of hours.
