New Photos from Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland'
Monday, June 22, 2009 at 9:33AM
I saw the new Ice Age movie over the weekend in 3-D and wondered if I really got anything out of wearing the glasses. The 3-D was certainly good enough, but did it add to the experience? I thought Up was just as good in the standard format, too. For the new 3-D to really take hold of audiences, it has to show us experiences that just don't measure up in the run-of-the-mill projection.

Enter Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, a combo CGI/live-action adaptation of a story we've been waiting to see for decades. To this point, we hadn't seen much in the way of official images from Alice to know what Burton's up to. There have been a few paparazzi photos from the set and a couple low quality scans, but now Disney has upped the stakes, showing off three new character photos of The Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), The Red Queen (Helena Bonham-Carter), and The White Queen (Anne Hathaway), plus a dash of Wonderland itself thrown in for good measure.

Disney will release the long-awaited version of Alice in Wonderland on March 5th. Seeing the new images makes me curious about when we'll see a trailer. Comic Con? Disney's Surrogates later this fall? Will they just surprise us and throw it out there?

i'm gobsmacked
Did anyone else notice that Johnny Depp looks straaangely like Elijah Wood in that picture? o_O But these are so awesome, Tim Burton is a goddamn genius.
Mad Mad mad mad, as it should be
WOW this looks just amazing and brilliant!
The cinemetography and art direction and design is just amazing
Im soo surprised I cant begin to describe it, the make up should win awards no doubt, what a wonder of images,
I cant wait.... TIM BURTON = still in my opinion very underrated but this film should solidify him as one of the greatest directors of our time!
I truly hope this particular adaptation does Lewis Carrol justice, instead of it turning into Tim Burton being a madman in a directors chair. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory paled in comparison to the original movie, and if Alice is anything like that, I will be very disappointed.
Im starting to think that Tim Burton should stick to stop animation, and should take a revisit to his version of Batman, as well as Edward Scissor Hands (speaking on particular style).
Just because you're brilliant (and he is, I will admit that), it doesn't give you license to hack things up as you see fit and drown the story in dazzling color and special effects.
gobsmacked-love the word;) I am surprised that the White Queen isn't Christina Ricci (those DARK eyebrows would stick out much more on her GIANT forehead of hers) and yes I can see Elijah Wood in this creation of the Mad Hatter (it's twisted that I think that's HOT, I know). Personally I am going to check this out in the theatre. I hated Tim's re-creation of the Chocolate Factory (beyond HATED) but I will still see what he has done to Alice in Wonderland. Is Danny Elfman doing the score? LOVE it when he works with Burton, it's magical.
I'm sure Danny Elfman is doing the score, he always does Burton's movies. And am I the only person that liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? It was truer to the book than the first one, in both title and story. Which, in my point of view, is a good thing. I like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, too, but I think Burton's was excellent.
I liked both versions of Willy Wonka. Burton has had some misfires like any director, but overall he's one of my favorites. Big Fish is one of the recent ones I liked best. But Peewee's Big Adventure? Come on. Hard to top. I know some people hate it, but I think it was really amazing. It's held up pretty well too with time.
I hate Tim Burton... maybe not hate but certainly find him overrated. He has a few good flicks thrown in mix like Ed Wood, BettleJuice and maybe the first Batman but the rest, no thanks. However, this might be a perfect fit for him and the images are quite startling. Perhaps I will see it and maybe add another to his short list of hits rather than his long of misses.
Although no Burton fan for sure, I was impressed by the visuals of Sweeney Todd. The characters and story also held together fairly nicely.
This one certainly looks like it could deliver value for money too.
