Producer Vows 'Red Sonja' Will Shoot Next Year
Monday, June 22, 2009 at 5:33PM
With Robert Rodriguez announcing more projects than we can keep straight, what's become of Red Sonja, the film that debuted a poster at Comic Con last year and hasn't taken a step forward since? Apparently, it's still a go. Next year.

"Because of certain issues and the economy, we had to change our plan a bit," producer Joe Gatta tells The Coventry Telegraph. "It's frustrating because we thought we'd make the movie last year, before Conan."
Now Conan is set to move ahead, with the announcement of Marcus Nispel coming aboard to direct. But Red Sonja, Rose McGowan, and director Douglas Aarniokoski are net yet cleared for takeoff, although Gatta is confident it will shoot in 2010.
He emphasizes that the 1985 movie will be completely ignored. That shouldn't be hard to do; it was completely ignored in 1985, as well. As for what we will see, Gatta says, "She's beautiful and sexy, and she kicks ass!"
"Although you have to be really carefull so it's not campy," he points out. "You want to make it real. Make her convicingly tough. And I think we have a script that's cracked it."
I couldn't have thought so at the time it was announced, but with the news of Rodriguez updating Predator as Predators, wouldn't it be cool to see Red Sonjas?
