Colin Boyd in Night Shyamalan, Trailers
As teaser trailers go, I give high marks to Night Shyamalan's The Last
Airbender. It's on the way next summer, so the timing is pretty good for Paramount, which can
now start looking ahead to 2010's popcorn season with Transformers arriving in theaters
tomorrow.
The film is based on the Nickelodeon TV series, and it marks Shyamalan's
first adaptation, and the timing is pretty good for that, too. Here's a guy who has frustrated
millions of movie fans with his past three films (Signs sold more tickets than The
Village, Lady in the Water, and The Happening combined), so leaning on a well-established story is probably a sound strategy.
There can be a few films in the Airbender series, which follows a boy thrust into an ongoing
battle to save the Water, Earth, and Air nations from the Fire Nation. You can see what the Fire
Nation is all about in the teaser:
Paramount has big plans for this one, opening The Last Airbender on July 2nd.
