Video Game Movie 'Hitman' Getting a Sequel

Although I can't figure out why IESB is throwing roses at everything in its story about a Hitman sequel, the site is confirming that a follow-up is on target over at Fox and that Kyle Ward is writing the script.

The first movie wasn't great, but then, video game movies rarely are. Still, it had its moments and it had Olga Kurylenko. If Fox had more faith in the property originally, perhaps Timothy Olyphant could have been working with a better script and a more polished director. Again, I didn't hate it, but Xavier Gens didn't make an exemplary case for Agent 47.

IESB calls Ward "one of Hollywood's hottest young writers." We'll assume that statement has some merit, even though none of his scripts have made it all the way to the screen yet.

There's enough to work with because of the multiple video games in the series, so maybe Fox sees a lot of opportunity for growth with Hitman and will actually give it more money and better marketing. I mean, if they're just aiming to duplicate the performance of the first one, it probably wouldn't be that hard to do, but it doesn't really seem worth the effort to play it that close to the vest again.

As for whether or not Olyphant or Gens will be back for round two, it's unclear, although the same group of producers are returning.

I love the first game, but never played any of the follow-ups. It has a quality that lends itself to being a pretty good movie and the first one almost got it right, so hopefully Fox can go all in and lead this one to the promised land.

I never played the 1st, but loved the 2nd game. And after i watched Eastern Promises, i thought Viggo M would've played a very good Agent 47. I know he doesnt look the part, but he could act the part.
