Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 5:46PM Trailer - Airborne Hilary Swank as 'Amelia'
Not to spoil the ending of the movie, but they never officially found Amelia Earhart's body. The aviatrix was declared dead in 1939, about 18 months after she and her navigator vanished in the South Pacific. Because of her fame and disappearance, the legacy of Earhart has shifted significantly over the years.

What shouldn't be lost in all of the theories is that Earhart was a true pioneer, pushing the limits of aviation and breaking down walls for women the world over. Hers is a truly inspiring story, and some would rhapsodically say, even a uniquely American one.
Hilary Swank will portray Earhart in the new bio-pic, Amelia, directed by Mira Nair (The Namesake). It's terrific casting, and I'm glad to see Swank back in more character-driven stuff than some of her more recent high profile also-rans. Here's the new trailer:

Amelia opens October 23rd. They got the right actress, it looks authentic to the period, so let's see what Nair and company can do with it.
