Friday, June 26, 2009 at 9:26PM 'All the Boys Love Mandy Lane' Killed Again
It's happened so many times I've lost count, but All the Boys Love Mandy Lane has been shelved again, less than a month before it was to finally arrive in theaters. The history on the film begins at the 2007 SXSW film festival, where it was met with favorable reviews and a mountain of buzz. Since then, however, it has been mired in distribution hell.

The film stars Amber Heard, who has since gone on to Pineapple Express, The Informers, and upcoming roles in Zombieland and opposite Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary. Here's how long it's been laying around: Director Jonathan Levine's follow-up, The Wackness was in theaters last summer. And yet...still no Mandy Lane.
Why the delay, again? The film was picked up by Senator Distribution, which also handled The Informers. I received an e-mail today from a Senator rep saying that not only was Mandy Lane tabled, but so was the rest of the company's slate of films. That sounds really bad for business, doesn't it?Actually, the recent departure of the company's president, Mark Urman, combined with the inability to raise promotion and advertising money for Senator's 2009 crop and the embarrassing returns for The Informers, effectively put the distribution wing of the company on ice.
Also left without U.S. release dates because of this move are Fireflies in the Garden with Julia Roberts, Splice with Adrien Brody, Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke, and Wesley Snipes in Antoine Fuqua's Brooklyn's Finest, and Unthinkable with Samuel L. Jackson, Brandon Routh, and Michael Sheen.
The Hollywood Reporter touched on Senator's issues raising money for their 2009 releases, which some observers believes stems from sinking too much money into films and Sundance back in January. Two weeks ago, the company still planned to release Fireflies, and pulled up stakes on Brooklyn's Finest and Unthinkable, but now all of those plans seem to be on hold at best.

All the boys love Mandy Lane has a rather slow first act, but after that it gets much better and the ending is simply great! Loved it!
