A Michael Jackson Concert Documentary on the Way?
Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 2:26PM
As you are no doubt aware,
Michael Jackson was planning a series of concerts at O2 in London, which was announced a couple months before his death on Thursday. According to NBC Dateline (via
Examiner), a sort of concert film documentary may be in the works, taken from footage shot in the weeks leading up to Jackson's untimely passing.

Executives organizing the concert series met late this week and now have all the rehearsal footage and behind-the-scenes moments, too, and one source told NBC the last rehearsal on Wednesday was the best of the bunch, and "there is enough for a show." Rehearsals were being held in various rooms at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and Jackson would supervise and work with dancers and choreographers to put together the show.
Regardless of your personal feelings towards Jackson and his music, you simply can't deny what a live performer and showman he was, so this would be a great look behind the curtain.
What form the documentary will take is unclear. NBC could use it at the beginning of the fall season or in November, a pivotal ratings month for every network, particularly one on the ropes like The Peacock. It could be turned into a theatrical film, as well. Another option is to show the film at O2 instead of the actual concert and thereby cut down on the total amount of refunds now due the customers who sold out 50 shows in four hours.
One thing is for certain: This footage will be of great interest to fans and depending on how in-depth it is, it could be a pretty important document of one of the most enigmatic and significant figures in pop music history.

I think the fans would still flock to the O2 arena to watch the "rehearsal concert." I've seen some of Michael Jackson's rehearsals for his earlier concerts and they are fantastic! The master at work! It's almost as good as the real thing. And the behind the scenes, the outtakes are priceless for fans. Showing the rehearsals at the 02 is a great idea - it would also mean so much to the fans, knowing that Michael was really set on delivering the performance of a lifetime, and that we can see Michael Jackson one last time. Show that video at the O2, then on TV, then release it in a DVD - I think that makes good sentimental, and business sense. I miss MJ so, so much!
Please please release this as so many of us want to see it. I was so looking forward to seeing Michael live and I just know it would have been an amazing experience.Every tour he did surpassed the previous one.Im absolutely sure that the sales would far exceed "Thriller" I feel all the estates debts could be wiped out by this ensuring that the children he adored are secure. His death has affected me so much I feel Ive lost a family member and I know Im not the only one that feels like that. His music will never die but oh Im so so sad that he did.
