Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11:14AM Box Office - 'Transformers' Does $125 Million in Only Three Days
It seems likely that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be in rare company by the end of its opening weekend onslaught. The sequel is poised to make between $170 and $190 million if the current numbers hold up. On Friday, the film posted another $36 million, taking its three-day domestic total to $125 million.

Saturdays are normally huge for tentpole movies like this, but few of them are released on Wednesday, so whether or not Transformers will perform like a Spider-Man 3 today is hard to determine. However, I think it's fair to say the audience won't drop off that much. Maybe we're not looking at $36 million today, but it will probably take in another $30 million, with another $25 million possible on Sunday.
In case you're wondering, this will be the second-best five-day run for any movie in history. I can't see it coming up short of Revenge of the Sith and $172 million. Here's a scary prospect: The sequel has already outgrossed the first Transformers based on five-day numbers, $125 million to $124 million. The best comparison that can be made is with Spider-Man 2, which opened on a Wednesday and hit $152 million, but this one is well ahead of that pace. The reason for that is the massive opening day, which was about $20 million more than what Spider-Man 2 took in.
We'll break down the full set of numbers tomorrow and put them into a historical perspective, as well. But for the time being, brace yourself. This one's going to get a massive start out of the gates.

I guess this proves that the writer's strike was all for naught, because these numbers show that writers are irrelevant to attracting big audiences.
was that a jab at the movies lack or script?
Also shows the audiences dont seem to care what critics think about some movies.
My sarcastic comment was aimed at the fact that what little "story" existed in the mess of a film that is Transformers: Rise of the Fallen is horribly written.
And it's not that audiences don't care what critics think, it's that people are dumb. There also seems to be a "it can't be as bad as they all say," and a childish "I'll show them!" attitude from the audience. At least that's the vibe I get from reading and listening to everyone who allegedly liked this movie.
It's kind of like when you were a kid and your mom tells you you're not going to like something. There is no possible way to convince the kid otherwise.
TRANSFORMERS REVENGE OF THE FALLEN ROCKED!!!!!
THIS AND STAR TREK ARE TWO OF THIS SUMMERS BEST.
I THINK I WILL GO SEE IT AT LEAST TWO MORE TIMES TO MAKE
ALL THE PC CRITICS PANIC.
FACT: Caps lock is cruise control to being cool.
FACT: "people are dumb."
the "I'm going to prove you wrong" mentality is defiantly a good way to sum it up.
Thank you, orinn. Perhaps "Keith" was being ironic. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Oh wait, he mentioned Star Trek and not another bad movie. Pehaps he was not being ironic.
