Michael Bay, DreamWorks Are Thinking of a 'Number'

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen director Michael Bay has said he's moving on to something smaller next, perhaps a movie with only 300 robots bent on destroying the planet. We don't know what project that would be, exactly, but he has just lined up another one to produce and possibly direct.

The big reveal isn't that Bay would return to science fiction, a genre that he profits from without understanding in any tangible way, but rather that A Million Little Pieces author James Frey is the rumored writer of I Am Number Four, the first volume of six in a new sci-fi opus.

Bay will set up the project at Dreamworks, where Steven Spielberg will assume the kindly benefactor role he's played with the Transformers series. The project also attracted the attention of J.J. Abrams and Bryan Singer, but DreamWorks pulled the trigger.

The story involves nine aliens who flee their planet just before it's destroyed, presumably not by Decepticons. They arrive on Earth and it is slightly unlike the sitcom Third Rock from the Sun.

On a related note, if you're on Twitter, you should check out the list of user-created Michael Bay facts. Here are some of my favorites:

Michael Bay makes the best ribs because his BBQ only has one setting - slow motion.

Michael Bay lost his virginity before his dad did.

Michael Bay was preceeded down the birth canal by a dove in slow motion. And followed by a column of flame.

Michael Bay couldn't direct his way out of a paper bag, but it doesn't matter - - because paper bags are flammable.

Michael Bay criticized the Big Bang for not being big enough"

Michael Bay's favorite color is fireball. His favorite number is 3...2...1
