Amy Adams Joins Bale, Wahlberg in 'The Fighter'

As if a David O. Russell movie with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale wasn't a big
enough event to get your attention, the film The Fighter has just added the busy and reliable Amy
Adams. Variety reports that she'll play "a gritty bartender from Massachusetts who ends up dating
Wahlberg's character, 'Irish' Micky Ward."

Micky Ward eventually became the light heavyweight champ and memorably took on Arturo Gatti in a series of
matches. Bale will play his half-brother, a promising boxer in his own right named Dickie Eklund. Eklund
once fought Sugar Ray Leonard before his career and life were undone by a crack addiction.
Following his
release from prison, Eklund became Ward's corner man, helping lead him to the top, although the film is said to focus on the earlier parts of Ward's career. You can see more of this story in the documentary High on Crack Street.
Bale says he's been boxing to drop some pounds for the movie, which will begin shooting next month. For Adams, it marks another chance for her to increase the curb appeal of a movie. For a couple years, I called this the Law Effect, because invariably, when Jude Law showed up in a movie, it immediately got better. That stopped after Road to Perdition, though. And since Enchanted, that has certainly been her modus operandi. I don't know that Doubt was too much better because of her, but she definitely helped hold it together.
Interestingly, The Fighter has a 2011 release date right now. Given how rapidly movies are spit out of production these days, a by-product of quicker post production in a lot of cases, I wonder if this won't get moved up to a fall 2010 release.

Wow this guy David O Russell, I just saw his FIGHT with Lily Tomlin and others on I Heart Huckabees and read about his actual FISTFIGHTING with George Clooney on a film years back, WHY IN THE SHIT DO ACTORS WANT TO WORK WITH HIM???
AND BETTER YET HOW DOES THIS DOUCHE GET FUNDING???
-the job of a director is to be sensitive to an actors needs and wants, they are the ones in front of the camera,
What I saw is just ridiculous THE GUY CALLED HER a bitch, a cunt, numerous names and ridiculed and embarressed extras on his set while George Clooney was trying to defend them, I MEAN COME ON....
I just dont get it....
But HEY Christian Bale has a mighty bad temper as well, hey COLIN, just imagine if these guys go at it on the set HAHAHA that would lead to epic proportions HAHAHA
OH WAIT quick QUESTION COLIN....
What do you mean by saying this is the LAW EFFECT????
Can you elaborate a bit??
Im kinda confused, not quite sure what you mean...
Watch The Talented Mr. Ripley, A.I., and The Road to Perdition. Whatever "it" is, Jude Law was is sole possession of "it" in those movies. Two of the three are really good on their own, but the minute he shows up, the property value skyrockets. Can't really explain it any other way. He instantly becomes the thing to watch.
Now, very few performers can do that over the course of a career, but it was appreciable when Jude had it working. Actually, it goes back as far as eXistenZ, but that's not really a useful example since nobody's seen it.
I agree with you Sean. And Russsell certainly doesn't seem like the right director for an oh-so-sensitive actor such as Christian Bale. I hope Russell's antics don't disturb the Bale concentration...

Actually, I would argue that "the Law effect" began with the underappreciated Gattaca.
It may have, now that you mention it.
Oh OK I SEE CLEARY NOW.. that the ran is gone lol jk
Ok yeah I get.... THANK YOU COLIN and those films all of which I have seen I know exactly what your talking about!
I do agree with MRPIGG Gattaca is where it did start, in my opinion!
Amy Adams...
Oh sorry Colin did you say something?
