Poster - Chris Pine Fights a Deadly Virus in 'Carriers'

It's pretty good timing for the movie Carriers, at least for me. I've been reading the fascinating book, The American Plague by Molly Caldwell Crosby, about the yellow fever outbreak along the Mississippi River in 1878. It essentially shut down Memphis for a couple years and changed medicine and commerce in one fell swoop.

Carriers has nothing specifically to do with yellow fever, but the scrawlings on the new poster reminded me of the sorts of warnings that were being posted throughout Memphis that summer. It's also pretty good timing for a movie with Chris Pine to come out, what with the success of Star Trek and all.

He's one of four people (along with Piper Perabo, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Emily Van Camp) desperately trying to outrun a pandemic that's spreading faster than they can drive west. And then, according to the official synopsis, "The virus is the least of their problems as horrible choices must be made in the face of lost humanity."

I get the sense this has the flavor of a 28 Days Later, which, of course, has several other flavors in it, as well. Still, I think the poster works well for a lower profile horror movie hoping to cash in on the sudden fame of one of its stars. We'll see if it can drum up any business on September 4th, a traditionally substandard weekend for new movies.
