Dunst Back for 'Spidey 4,' Big Hints on the Villain

All the talk of whether or not Kirsten Dunst will return to Spider Man 4 has more or less been settled, thanks to producer Todd Black, who commented on the next Spidey movie while being interviewed by The New York Post. The answer: Dunst will be back as Mary Jane, but there will be no wedding, as some rumors have suggested.

Black also teased what character might be in play as the film's villain. On top of saying that Morbius is not going to be featured, the producer said, "We're just coming up with who the villain's going to be now. We'll be shooting in New York again. Trust me, people will appreciate who we pick, because it'll be a big part of New York."

A New York villain? Hmm...Bernie Madoff? Anne Hathaway's ex-boyfriend? Bernie Goetz?

"The villain will be one of Spidey's foes from the comic, not a character invented for the film," elaborated Black, which to most observers sounds like an opening of the door for The Kingpin, a great character badly executed in Daredevil. He's definitely worth taking another look at, and because Kingpin always needs henchman, that allows Sam Raimi to go with multiple villains while still keeping the focus on one main antagonist.

Might be a smart move. And seriously, can we get John Goodman to play this part? He just shaved his head for Waiting for Godot on Broadway and he'd be great as a Marvel villain.

The Lizard seems as likely a choice as any given that Dr. Connors has already made appearances in the second and third films. I've also read that there's been speculation on the part of Dylan Baker that Lizard will show up and rumor has it that Raimi has confirmed it to be true.

Goodman would make a good Kingpin but I've just never been impressed with that villain in any way.
