Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11:50AM 'Twilight' Villain Cam Gigandet a Vampire in 'Priest'
Cam Gigandet will fang up for a non-Twilight vampire movie, joining Paul
Bettany in the Screen Gems horror western, Priest. The film is based on the TokyoPop comic, with
Bettany playing a warrior priest who turns his back on his church after his niece is kidnapped by blood
suckers. Sounds a lot like The Searchers, doesn't it?

Gigandet is part vampire in the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a sheriff in a
wasteland "ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire." He's also a good guy this time around,
which should please the Twilight fans who simultaneously want to see Gigandet dead and without his
shirt and glistening.
It's the third straight Screen Gems movie for the two-time winner of MTV's Best Fight movie award. He can
be seen in The Roommate with Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly, which if nothing else, features one
of the more genetically appealing casts in a while. He's currently filming that thriller, and he just
signed for the studios Easy A, a comedic spin on The Scarlett Letter, in which he'll portray
a third-year high school senior.
Screen Gems will release Priest on August 13th next year, which is strange, because it's only a week after Jonah Hex, another bizarre comic book western.

I am hoping for the success of the other similarly titled comic book adaptation about a Preacher who has turned his back on the church and ends up travelling with a vampire. So hopefully this won't cause confusion and spoil that one. Though I haven't heard anything about that one in a while, so maybe it's dead. :(
