Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 11:30AM Rodriguez Hopes to Shoot 'Jetsons' Movie in 2010
Were it not for the appeal of the first one-and-a-half Spy Kids movies, I'd say Robert Rodriguez is the wrong guy to direct a live-action Jetsons movie. I still don't think he's the right guy, necessarily, but at least the Spy Kids jaunts give him a little kiddie-fun-sci-fi credibility.

Perhaps because those Flinstones movies were such a gas, it was decided back in 2007 that The Jetsons would be turned into a movie with Rodriguez at the helm. But with his dance card punched numerous times as a producer and director since then, you had to wonder whether or not Rodriguez would make The Jetsons, or if anybody would at all.
He tells MTV it's still going ahead, saying, "We’re writing the script right now,” and adding that he hopes to shoot it next year. He wouldn't give any real specifics, but the general update gets the job done at this point.
Here's hoping he learns from Land of the Lost what not to do in situations like these. Three funny moments - and moments you could see Will Ferrell attempt in any comedy since 2002 - just doesn't cut it on its own, and it makes Land of the Lost worse than a straight-ahead movie version would be and worse than an original Ferrell comedy would be.
Because Rodriguez isn't really a natural fit for the material, I think you have to be leery of him bringing too much of something else into the mix. It's a risk that comes with any remake, but with The Jetsons not even relevant to most moviegoers under the age of 25 or 30, I think that adds a degree of difficulty.

This would be great. I can see Will Ferrel in this flick. But I'm still iffy about Rodriquez filming this movie. You never know if he will do justice to the film. Right now, I can't think of anybody directing this flick. All I know is that if Will Ferrel is in this movie, it would be funny. Whether if it's adult comedy or kiddy comedy, Will Ferrel always makes me laugh.
