Jackman, Hathaway Among New Oscar Voters

And the Oscar votes go to...

Sid Gannis continues making news. A week after the AMPAS boss announced there would be ten Best Picture nominees, prompting everyone to wonder why the word "Best" is even in the category anymore, and a few days after he said there would be changes in the Best Song voting, Gannis revealed the several hundred new Academy invitees. Now, this happens every year, although 134 names is roughly one-third more than we've seen invited to the party in previous years.
You can get the entire list at The Hollywood Reporter - and who knows, maybe you've been asked to join AMPAS, but the headline grabbers would be: Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Seth Rogan, Tyler Perry, Paul Rudd, Taraji P. Henson, Michael Cera, James Franco, Casey Affleck, and directors Danny Boyle and Rod Lurie. Producer Paula Wagner finally gets the nod, and writers John August and Dustin Lance Black also got little envelopes in the mail.
Of course, these people will now get Oscar votes, and the number of voters is now up to about 6,000. But it's spread out over different areas of expertise, so visual effects guys won't be voting for Best Supporting Actress in the first round of balloting. But in the final balloting, once the nominees are secured, I believe all AMPAS members vote in most categories.
Some would like to do it more than once; we call them publicists.
