Friday, July 10, 2009 at 10:53PM Interview with Jeremy Renner from 'The Hurt Locker'
The name Jeremy Renner may not have a lot of impact on you. Not yet. But if you see The Hurt Locker, I have a feeling that's going to change. As of this writing, the film is only playing in 19 cities, so if you check it out over the next couple of weeks, tell a friend. Or six.

July is not the usual time frame for a movie that has better Oscar aspirations than commercial ones. But it's the most worthy movie of the year in that regard, at least in my opinion, and Renner is far and away the front runner for Best Actor. A lot can and will change between now and December but in order for The Hurt Locker and Renner's performance to stand out at the end of the year, word of mouth is the only way to accomplish it.
We had a chance to speak with Jeremy Renner a few weeks ago, and we discussed filming in Jordan, working under director Kathryn Bigelow and under conditions simulating the Iraq War. There are a couple of partial spoilers if you haven't seen the film, so I apologize for that, but at least I don't give away the ending.
Take a look:
The Hurt Locker is in selected cities now, and will continue expanding throughout the month and hopefully longer. Get a complete list of cities and more information at the film's official website.

Jeremy Renner has always been a great character actor. He deserves a Best Actor Oscar nom, as well as a truck load of other awards.
Nice, you should do more of these.
As to Oscars, it's too early of course, but there has always been a market for films that deal with current events, including war, on an emotional rather than political level.
I do like the cinematic style of the clips I've seen so far. It seems to be both technically accomplished with a very crisp picture and an ad hoc, documentary style of handling scenes and dialogue.
Let's hope this one picks up to get a wider release.
Great interview.
A couple of weeks after this interview was done Jeremy Renner and Brian Geraghty came to Modesto, Ca (Jeremy's hometown) to premiere The Hurt Locker and they were the two nicest people you could ever meet.
Modesto is rooting for you, Jeremy!!!!!
