Hudgens a Filthy Pirate Hooker in 'Sucker Punch'
Monday, July 13, 2009 at 8:34AM
For her role in Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, High School Musical graduate Vanessa Hudgens will show a side of herself we've only seen in embarrassingly leaked snapshots. Hudgens tells WENN that she's playing a profane prostitute, which would surely net her some detention at East High.

"I'm playing a character named Blondie and it's set in a brothel in the 1950s, so
there's not a whole lot of clothes," she admits, adding that she's looking forward to the other aspects of preparing for an action film. "It'll be
gun training, stunts, fighting and all that craziness. I can't wait."
It's easy to forget that Hudgens and Zac Efron aren't teenagers anymore, but they're certainly making efforts to put their Disney pasts behind them and find more interesting and perhaps revealing work. In Sucker Punch, Hudgens joins Jena Malone, Jamie Chung (Dragonball), Abbie Cornish (Stop-Loss), and Emily Browning (Lemony Snicket) in a farily stylized R-rated flick Snyder described as "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns."
While it may not be as gratuitous as Snyder's 300 or Kill Bill, I do think it's got potential. The first Charlie's Angels worked, as did the just mentioned Kill Bill, so anybody who thinks women can't make good, entertaining action movies is smoking something. I'm not sold on any of the actresses carrying movies by themselves, although Malone has gotten close before, but the ensemble works for me even if Amanda Seyfried and Evan Rachel Wood both passed.
The film gets underway this fall with a release date currently targeted for 2011.

I"m totally excited to see Jena Malone's name in there
I agree. I am a huge Vanessa fan but just coming off from HSM, I think it's better for her to take supporting roles in ensemble movies and develop her talent as well as showing versatility. Sucker Punch is great because it enables her explore a different character and be exposed to a different and broader audience without the burden of trying to carry the movie.
She is just 20, she is still young, she should concentrate on establishing herself as a fine (or decent) actress. Stardom that is worthwhile will follow, slowly but surely. That appears to be the path Jena, Abbie and Emily are taking and seems to be the path Vanessa herself is taking. I'm happy with the cast and ecstatic over it being a Snyder movie.
I really believe Sucker Punch will open up a lot of opportunities for the entire cast. Can't wait for it.
I definitely have a positive outlook on this.
Also just pointing out that Amanda Seyfried didn't really pass, she couldn't due to contractual and scheduling obligations with Big Love.
i love Vanessa
i'm excited for this movie
