Monday, July 13, 2009 at 7:25PM Red Band Trailer for Oscar Nominated Foreign Film, 'The Baader Meinhof Complex'
The German film The Baader Meinhof Complex was that country's official Best Foreign Language Film submission last year, and it wound up among the nominees (Japan won its first-ever award in this category, if you can believe it, for Departures). The rules for the Foreign Language Oscars do not require that a movie play in the U.S., but only in its country of origin, which is why we very often don't see the winner or nominees for several months following the awards.

In this case, Baader Meinhof will open August 21st in New York and then will expand from there.
The film is a depiction of the rise of the far-left West German terrorist group known as the Red Army Faction, which in the late 1960s kidnapped, robbed banks, assassinated, and committed arson, all in the name of promoting a Communist ideals in a country where that form of thinking was outlawed a decade earlier.
