Monday, July 13, 2009 at 2:11PM Spurlock Supersizes 'Simpsons' For 20th Anniversary
A year-long celebration of the longest-running comedy in TV history will
culminate in January when Fox airs the documentary, The Simpsons 20th Anniversay Special in
3-D on Ice. In a press release, Fox announced that
documentarian and Oscar nominee Morgan Spurlock (Super Size
Me) will direct and produce the special that will"document how the world sees The
Simpsons and how the Simpson family has seen the world for
two decades."

Said Spurlock of the opportunity, "When they first called me about this, I thought it was a prank
and I hung up. And then my agent called back and said, ‘No, no, this is for real,’ at which point
I fainted."
"Then when I woke up," Spurlock added, "I called everyone I
knew because it was the coolest thing I could ever get to do in my career.”
The Simpsons 20th Anniversay Special in 3-D on Ice will air on Thursday, January 14th, but
it will neither be in 3-D nor on ice. The show doesn't have the punch it used to have, but when
you've been on TV for a generation, you don't really have to justify yourself to anyone. And in
this case, the entire network owes The Simpsons such a debt of gratitude because for years
it was the only thing paying the bills.
And what can you say about Homer, seriously? He's among the best characters to ever live on the
small screen.
