Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 4:54PM 'Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief' Gets Potter-tastic Trailer
Earlier today, we saw Fame take advantage of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by baking some overt references to that film it its new trailer. Now let me introduce you to Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. It has the same kind of family-friendly marketability and even the same director; Chris Columbus was behind the camera for The Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets.

Before we get to the trailer and the cast, can I just chime in about the title? Sweet sweetback, that's too long. Fourteen syllables, just like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and people will just call it Percy Jackson in general discussions, The Lightning Thief when comparing one movie to another. Just doesn't need The Olympians. I know it's a book title and all, but still.
Speaking of, you won't see any Olympians in this trailer, because they're all in jail for perjury because they lied about using steroids. Actually, it's Greek Olympians, with Sean Bean as Zeus, Rosario Dawson as Persephone, Uma Thumran as Medusa, plus Pierce Brosnan, Kevin McKidd, and Steve Coogan. The kid is Logan Lerman, who will also be seen in Gamer in a couple of months.

And that's why we don't play in the elevator.
Percy Jackson opens, as the teaser proudly proclaimed, on President's Day. Or at least, on that weekend - February 12th.

Remember "Eragon", which was also released by Fox, and was supposed to be a successor to the "Harry Potter"/"Lord of the Rings"/"Narnia" throne?
That's all I'm going to say.
I saw the cast list for this movie ! It made me flip . there casting a 23 year old for a twelve year old ! Thats an 11 year Difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could be a better annabeth and i know my lines to!
Mr.Riorden please try to make them NOT cast that girl! it would ruin the movie ! I LOVE your books and you need to get a better Annabeth Chase! Somebody who is an undiscovered actress! Give somebody who is NOT ALREADY FAMOUS !!!!!! The movie could be great if you got some one else to play grover to ! Grover is so-posed to be White with curly hair and they casted a black guy with no hair! Please think re-think this before the next movie! Sincerely ,
Your #1 fan!
The movie will SUCK!
The movie would probably be better if you do cast a younger girl as Annabeth Chase. And also Annabeth needs to have blonde hair like in the books. Grover is another issue. I have just finished watching the trailer and if the are making Grover a black man with no hair, you might as well burn the books, because they sure aren't using them. And with Luke Castellan will he have a scar? I am not all that impressed with the actress that will be Persephone or Hades, maybe you should rechoose your staff. THe books will be corrupted and will have no value after the move, because those who haven't read them after watching the movie will totally never read the books. the movie will be a disgrace to Mr. Rick Riordan and to his books.
I think this movie will be amazing!!!! I mean i no annabeth and grover are a little bit older, but thats no reason not to watch it!
"Great special effects but I just could not get past this Hollywood preoccupation with having to make every hero an American, and set every film in America, no matter whether it spoils the movie or not. But in this film they made it one degree more ridiculous by portraying the inheritor of Poseidon's powers inexplicably as a New York jew (Logan Lerman). Still, at least he got the brunette goyische shiksa in the end. And no doubt, if Chris Columbus ever remakes "The Ten Commandments" he'll make sure Moses has a broad Welsh accent, just to balance things up a bit. "
