Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 7:48AM Sacha Baron Cohen Angers "Terrorist" with 'Brüno'
There's more trouble for Sacha Baron Cohen and Brüno. As you know, Cohen has been sued countless times for the way he wrangles interviews in his films. The bottom line, usually, is that people sign release forms and there's nothing they can do after that.

But one of the key participants in Brüno is angry at Cohen not for putting him in the film but for insinuating that he's a terrorist leader. Ayman Abu Aita tells WND - that's WND - claims he's not a leader of Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, nor could he have kidnapped Brüno as the character would have liked in a bid to become more famous.
There is an Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and Aita was a member between 2000 and 2003, but he has since spent time in an Israeli prison and reportedly worked with Israeli officials while with the terrorist organization to return to Israeli soldiers who had gotten lost in Bethlehem.
Aita discovered he had been duped last week after Cohen's appearance on David Letterman, where he set the scene describing how he had to be driven to a secret location, and that Aita was armed and had a bodyguard. Aita insists it's actually the back room of a restaurant and Beit Jala in the Israeli-controlled section of the West Bank. Palestineans aren't allowed to carry weapons in Beit Jala, and his "bodyguard," Aita claims, was actually an American working with him in the Palestinian organization Holy Land Trust, which preaches a message of non-violence.
About the interview itself, the "terrorist" remembered, "There was nothing special. He said he is a German actor making documentaries watched by young people. He wanted to make a story to mobilize the young people to help us (Palestinians)."
"I didn't have any impression he would use my interview in a bad way."
Aita tells WND he might pursue legal action, although how that would work under international law I have no idea. It's convincing in the movie, which is all he more reason Aita would be upset if he is who he says he is and not, as Cohen claims, a dangerous terrorist.
