Ice Cube's 'Are We There Yet?' Heading to TBS

Boy, will I be glad to completely avoid this: TBS is planning a sitcom based on the Ice Cube film Are We There Yet? We're somewhere, I know that much, and the view's not good. The show will replace Cube with Terry Crews and will try to reproduce the network's success with Tyler Perry's House of Payne, which has been quite a hit for Turner, if you call being the number one cable sitcom in history "successful." In fact, it was the number one show for black audiences in 2008. Not cable show, but show. Of any kind. Ice Cube will executive produce the series, and the plan is that he'll have a recurring role, as well. TBS has ordered ten episodes of the show, and if all goes well (a relative term) there's a network option for another 90 installments. Man, that's some show of faith, picking up a cable show for four years based on the first two months. We may roll our eyes at this specific project, but there's no denying how Turner has changed the game with its lineup of original programming on TNT and TBS. The Closer nets about six million viewers a week and won Kyra Sedgwick some Emmy awards, and as mentioned, the play for black audiences has clearly worked with House of Payne, but I think a better sitcom than this has to be out there. Are We There Yet? will debut in June 2010.

As a Braves fan living in the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana area I just wish TBS would return to broadcasting 144 Braves games a year. But I guess you can't argue with success.

Actually, the timing was pretty good to stop running Braves games. Chipper and Bobby Cox are the last ties to the glory days, and even poor Skip Caray's gone.

That's true. Of course I'm still nostalgic for the days when Ted Turner ran things, back before the most disastrous merger in American history cost The Mouth $10 million a day for two years and the Braves a top 5 payroll to supplement the prospect making machine that was the Atlanta farm system.
