Trailer - Steve Carell in Animated 'Despicable Me'

Universal didn't have great luck last Christmas with The Tale of Despereaux, which I actually thought was pretty good. The problem, as near as I could tell, was the studio didn't get behind it enough. It did OK, but should have been a bigger hit, just by default.

The studio will try again next summer with Despicable Me, a supervillain cartoon featuring Steve Carell. Much like the teaser for Monsters vs. Aliens, this new trailer basically lays out the story through showing us one scene from the film. That's not the only comparison between the movies we can make on the surface.

As Groo, Carell is stealing all the world's treasures (kind of like the villain in the second Pink Panther movie earlier this year), and according to the IMDB description, has his eye on stealing the moon. Not even David Copperfield could pull that trick off.

Check out the trailer; it's pretty entertaining.

Looks like a big ol' summertime hit.
