Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 7:57AM '30 Rock', 'Mad Men' Lead Emmy Nominees
The industry love affair with 30 Rock continues, as the NBC comedy racked up 22
Emmy nominations this morning. It was one of seven nominees for Outstanding Comedy Series, joining category newcomers Family Guy and Flight of the Conchords.

The continued growth of cable programming is evident, with Mad Men securing 16 nominations, and a disparity in cable vs. network programs in several key categories, most notably in my opinion
Outstanding Actor/Actresss in a Drama, where two performers in each category represent broadcast
television, while four actors and actresses on cable shows are nominated.
The rundown of the major categories follows, and you can read the exhaustive list of every nominee here.
The Emmys air live on CBS Sunday, September 20th, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.

Very pleased with the Breaking Bad nomination. Last season was perhaps the greatest 13 hours of television I have ever seen. The exact opposite of a "sophomore slump."
I am happy that you are not afraid to cover this story when I know you are mainly dedicated to movie coverage. In my humble opinion, we are in an age where there is just as much good television as there are good theatrical films, for the most part.
The other intriguing nomination that stands out to me is Sarah Silverman. It's nice that they recognize that the style of this very funny show would not work without her consistent characterization. Some may not think it is really "acting," but that is kind of the point of the show.
Also, how often is a nominee in a major category also the host of the awards show? I'd have to look that up, I can't recall it ever happening.
