Usually, we set up trailers for you a little bit before we get to the video. It adds
context, or the trailer's incredible or awful and that merits discussion, too. But I'm not going to do
that with The Collector.

It's likely not something you've heard much about, so watch it first and then we'll break it down.

My impressions of it are that it's a pretty memorable 90 seconds for a smaller movie that could use a big bolt of publicity. As you read, it's from Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, writers of the past two Saw movies and the next one, as well. I also think that we see just enough of certain things to wonder exactly what the hell is going on, another good sign of a trailer for a thriller.
Here's the drill: A guy needs to repay a debt to his ex-wife so he decides to rob his new boss. Only thing is, a madman is also targeting the house, arming it with deadly traps because, after all, it is written by some guys on the Saw payroll.
It's not one of those movies where we don't go in thinking the ending is in much doubt, but how we get there sure is. Then again, The Strangers, so who knows? The Collector comes out on July 31st, and apparently will be a nationwide release despite the late start for the advertising.

I'm all about helping to promote low budget horror films, but this is from the same guys that wrote Saw IV, Saw V, Feast II, and Feast III, which are four of the worst horror movies of the last five years IMO. Not sure I'll be seeing this even though the trailer is well-made (Alien vs. Predator: Requiem had a great trailer, too, and I'm still recovering from that one).
Well, you do make a good point.
