Three New Viral Videos for 'District 9'

I expect there to be a few more things revealed about District 9 this week at Comic Con. And it's one of those films that can really slingshot itself into must-see mode for a lot of people if it wows the crowd there because, unlike, say, a big comic book movie, this doesn't have a built-in audience, Peter Jackson notwithstanding. One way a movie like this can generate more interest in the mainstream is by having its trailers and viral videos make a big impact. The second trailer, which came out a couple weeks ago, definitely fits that description, although an earlier viral video didn't quite do it for me. Now there's a new batch of videos for District 9, which leave a great deal of mystery, but that's perfect for the little we've been allowed to see of the movie's aliens. Again, I think Comic Con will showcase a little more, but this man-on-the-street style reinforces the docudrama feel director Neill Blomkamp is using in the film. District 9 opens on August 14th, and I'm still pretty excited.
