Writers Dunstan and Melton to Return for 'Saw VII'

A few days ago, we spotlighted the trailer for The Collector, a new horror flick from Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. I thought the trailer looked pretty good, although trailers for horror movies are not terribly reliable. We did get a comment from someone who wasn't thrilled to learn the movie came from the writers of the past two Saw movies.

Well...I don't know what to tell you, but IGN reports that Dunstan and Melton are back for another round with Saw. To clarify, the duo wrote Saw IV, which showed a tad of promise, Saw V, which is the worst movie in the series, and have already written this year's Saw VI. Now word comes that the producers have brought the writing team back for the seventh movie, due out in October 2010.
That takes us most of the way through the series, with Tobin Bell scheduled for two more movies and indications pointing to nine movies total. If it's true that you can't argue with success, then nobody has anything they can say about the Saw franchise, which is absolutely pure profit. I think the most expensive film in the series so far had about a $12 million budget before promotional costs, and all five flicks combined have made nearly $700 million worldwide. So, this will be a billion dollar property by the time it's all said and done, and the total production cost of all the movies might get to $100 - $125 million.
My only wish is that they smarten/freshen up the concept, which has remained mostly unchanged all the way through. Perhaps ditching Jigsaw after the next movie is the way to achieve that. Or perhaps they should have done that a couple of years ago.

Count me OUT! This is like the Friday the 13th series that was just a one-trick pony and was put out of its misery only after audiences stopped showing up (until the reboot brought in 40 million despite offering nothing new and guaranteed us another installment or three).
Part of me is curious to see what else they pull out of their ass for this one, though - the way they keep trying to tie these sequels in to the first few is getting to be hilarious. No way I'm paying to see this one, though.
ill go to see every saw movie most likely but i wish they would end it already
