Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 12:22PM New 'Prince of Persia' Shot with Ben Kingsley
We got our first glimpse of the marketing for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time yesterday, with the debut of two terrific posters featuring Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton. They weren't at all what I was expecting, but they're pretty memorable. Now comes the first high resolution image of Ben Kingsley, courtesy of Coming Soon. Click on the goatee to see the whole shot.

In the film, Sir Ben will play the nefarious Nizam, the Snidely Whiplash of The Sands of Time. Whether or not he's in any way based on the original villain, I don't know, because the names have been changed to protect the innocent. The Prince from the game is now called Dastan (Gyllenhaal). The Princess (Arterton) is now called Tamina, and Jaffar has been changed to Nizam. I have no idea why.
I mean, giving the protagonist a name is usually a smart move, but What the hell was wrong with Jaffar? I know this much, there's nothing wrong with his perfectly manicured facial hair. But Kingsley can be a good villain to have. It's funny, though - he's usually better than a good script and worse than a bad one. I don't know how that works, exactly, but in the past five - seven years, when he's been one of the busiest actors around, Kingsley has run the gamut.

Ben kingsley equals good actor consistently....
Maybe changed the names over poliitcal reasons you know what they say about disney and their "racist movie portrayal" all be it that is a little bit too harsh IMO
You've clearly not seen Suspect Zero or The Love Guru.
In its series, The Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones fits in perfectly. It’s up for you to decide if that’s a good or a bad thing.
