Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 2:07PM New Poster for Scorsese's 'Shutter Island'
It was a couple months ago - or at least it feels that way - when we saw the first trailer for Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island. It's a psychological thrilla starring Leo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo. I'd really like to see Ruffalo finally get the kind of recognition he deserves, even if the rest of the movie's not so great.

I have no specific interest in this film either way, however. The trailer was not bad per se, but it sure looked run-of-the-mill. Remove the titles and you'd never know this was a Scorsese movie. That's not a bad thing, really, and just because the trailer doesn't light Jim Morrison's fire, that doesn't mean the movie won't be outstanding. But there are a lot of movies this fall that have grabbed my interest a lot more.
Now there's a new poster, which found its way to Yahoo! This is likewise pretty pedestrian. I went through this last year with Leo's Body of Lies - a great movie undercut by weak marketing, and it kept people out of the theaters. The movie just didn't look good to people based on the advertising, and they chose movies that did look good to them instead.
See if you're any more convinced than I am:

Shutter Island opens on October 2nd.

It's no Dark Knight marketing... I'm in for sure because of the names (Von Sydow and Scorsese, yes please) but if I was average-joe would this catch my eye and get me to the ticket booth, probably not. And I second the Ruffalo comments, hes been great in everything I've seen him in, even in the weak films he delivers a strong performance and in the strong films, he shines.
I think it looks awesome, and something new for marty
