Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 12:04AM Watch an Extended Clip from '9'
I'm hopeful about two things as it relates to 9, the new 3-D animated flick due out in September. I'm hoping it's as good as it looks, number one, and number two, I hope the postapocalyptic story about ragdolls fighting for survival isn't an instant turn-off to audiences.

Focus Features is releasing the film, and they had a sizable hit with big critical support earlier this year with Coraline. No, it didn't do Pixar business, but when it comes to animation, Focus Features isn't quite Pixar. So there's hope that the studio will market this correctly, as they did that film, and it will pick up some steam. Of course, that at least had human and sub-human characters.
9 will get a good boost this weekend at Comic Con, but that's kind of preaching to the choir. The only surefire hope it has is if John Q. Public watches clips like this, gets excited about it, and clears some room in his schedule to pay to see it. And now on with the clip...
9 arrives on September 14th. If you liked the clip, tell a friend.

Ok, this looks awesome
This is the same clip you'd posted some time back but this one is of better quality. How well the ragdolls play really comes down to how good the story and marketing are. Perhaps it's just me but it seems that there's more talk about Coraline coming out on dvd/blu-ray than anything I'd heard about it when it was coming to theaters. So hopefully 9 enjoys a stronger push on the front end of things rather than at the back end.
It's a little longer, I think. Anyway, that clip has since been removed, which I didn't know until last night. Focus can afford to push this and Coraline on DVD a lot more now than it could in February, when the studio was throwing so much money at Milk and the Burn After Reading DVD.
It looks good. I like the "organic" flow of this fight scene, which makes it develop in a chaotic and natural way, even if it's taken a lot of planning. I hope the rest of the story works as well.
